In her debut novel, Corinne Michaels has made me a HUGE fan! I have read many books. I have been swooned and captured by Prologues, but NEVER have I been pulled with the need to read a book so much as I was with Beloved. I was taken away by a simple teaser. The story is enamoring and believable. What Jackson and Catherine struggle with does happen. Jackson and Catherine are broken people. Jackson is somewhat of a mystery (for now) while Catherine is an open book. They are drawn together like magnets and their passion is explosive. Good gravy is it ever! *fans self*
What I find most impressive about this book is that the characters are not derivative, but nuanced, and through their respective nuances, they become real to the reader. The insecurities that Catherine faces are understandable. I found that I was able to really sympathize with her. Decisions and actions she took were not one’s that lead me to want to reach into my kindle and strangle her. They were intelligent and mature. I thoroughly understood her feelings and choices that she made.
Jackson was the same way. While he doesn't face the same insecurity issues that Catherine has, he has his own demons, his own pressures. All of Jackson’s actions are understandable because of his love and devotion.
Now, let’s talk about the cliffhanger… Yes, there is one… and this cliffhanger is a pretty big one. Normally I want to throw my Kindle across the room, but this one, with as frustrating as it is, only leaves me wanting to pace the floor for the next book. My mind is going wild with all of the possibilities. I CAN’T WAIT!
So, all in all: This book is worth the read. Worth the heartache you undergo. Worth the tears you cry. Worth the swoon you feel. Worth the heat from many of the scenes but most of all it’s worth getting to know Jackson and Catherine. These two are a fabulous book couple. They will certainly leave you wanting for more!

Beloved The Belonging Series Volume 1 Corinne Michaels 9781499679106 Books Reviews
This is NOT a stand-alone book. The book ends with no resolution regarding the fate of Jackson and Catherine's romance. I feel cheated--after reading 29 chapters, there is no closure.
When I started to read Beloved, I did not realize that is wasn't a stand-alone book. I am not a fan of this type of series. I prefer the style of series that Lisa Kleypas and many other authors use. They write books where each one in a series is a stand-alone but pleasantly connected to the others in the series.
Since finishing the Beloved, I looked for more information about this book and to see how many books are in the series. In the About This Book on my , it indicates this is "Book 1 of 2 in the Belonging Duet." There are five (5) books in the Salvation series. This style of series reminds me of soap operas--they go on and on.
If the Beloved story had come to a conclusion within the framework of one book, the rating would be higher.
I cannot believe that this is author Corinne Michaels’s first book, it is just that amazing and so well written. I wish she had more novels available already!
The book centres on heroine, Catherine Pope, a broken-hearted woman who is reluctant to open up herself after a miserable and painful break up. She is such a relatable character, and her struggles to sort through her issues felt so real to me. She really is that girl you know you could be great friends with, and just share a glass of wine and giggle.
Enter Jackson Cole, the male protagonist of the story. And by God is he just awesome. He’s funny, handsome, sensitive, wealthy, and he’s an alpha male without being a dick about it. And what is most appealing and refreshing about him, is that he comes with his own baggage he’s struggling to deal with. Oh, and did I mention? He’s a former Navy SEAL. I don’t know about you, but that just... Damn... The Lord is testing me!
And when the two meet, off the bat, the chemistry is explosive!
Michaels does a fantastic job of taking the reader on this journey Catherine’s of rediscovering herself, and her struggle to open up to Jackson. Jackson’s of coaxing Catherine to break down the walls she’s constructed to protect herself, and also revealing parts of himself that he fights to deal with.
Not once throughout the story did I feel bored, or that the story was moving too slowly. This book doesn’t lack anything in my opinion Admirable heroine and hero, the main characters’ friends are charming and funny, there are antagonists that you will love to hate. And of course, there are the sexy times aplenty without any of it being vulgar!
Definitely 5 stars for me! Even though the ending absolutely KILLED ME.
I seriously cannot wait for the next instalment of the series, “Beholden”.
First off let me say that if you read enough books your home town may be mentioned. Two of my children attended Stevens Institute of Technology and a third is there now. Stevens is located in Hoboken, New Jersey. Hoboken is one of the main setting of Beloved. It is the birth place of baseball and Frank Sinatra and home to Eli Manning and many great bars and restaurants. An excellent location for a story with successful, hot, and intense characters.
Catherine lives with her fun and out going roommate, Ashton who is also one of her best friends. In the beginning of the story, Catherine walks into the apartment that she plans to share with her fiance and discovers him thrusting into her good friend. Her engagement to Neil is over as well as the friendship she had with Piper.
Catherine goes through weeks of depression and feeling unlovable, having yet another man leave her, something that began at the age of nine when her dad walked out on her and her mother never to be seen again. Ashton and another friend convince Catherine to join them out for dinner where she falls into the lap of the beautiful former Nave Seal, Jackson.
Beloved Is packed with sexual tension, deceit, drama, chance encounters and comedic situations. I really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading the next part Beholden. This book does have a dramatic ending that leaves you with many unanswered questions.
